ChildAid 2016 Raises Over $2 Million For Two Children’s Charities

Despite the economic slowdown, ChildAid continues to receive unwavering support from its staunch supporters and the public.

The annual charity concert, which opened at the Resorts World Theatre on Friday evening (Nov 18), raised over $2 million for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF) and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BTBAF), surpassing last year’s $1.98 million.

This brings the total sum raised for both funds to more than $14 million, since the annual concert series started in 2005. The top donors were Citi, HSBC. and UOB. They each donated $500,000 and above to ChildAid 2016.

Childaid Inspires Young Talents to Live Their Dreams

A young guzheng student who plays pop music on her instrument; a ukulele and vocal student who aspires to be a world famous gamer; an aspiring ballet dancer who enjoys showing her humorous side to entertain. These are some of the young talents who will get to live their dreams at Singapore’s major annual children’s charity concert, ChildAid, come November.

Aptly themed “Living Dreams”, ChildAid 2016 will see 11-year old guzheng student Sylvia Tan whose “biggest dream is to travel around the world and to perform at different concerts” fulfill part of her dream on 18 and 19 Nov at Resorts World Sentosa. Sylvia will perform with 20 members of local harp ensemble, the Rave Harpers, for her showcase. Similarly, Megan Lau, 15, who religiously trains daily and hopes to do Singapore proud on the international dance stage, will also have an opportunity to display her emceeing skills aside from dancing in one of the song segments.

Leading Childcare Educator Celebrates Children’s Day with A Good Deed To Charity

Leading Singapore childhood educator, Patricia Koh brought cheer to 200 beneficiaries yesterday with a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative through her childcare chain, MapleBear Singapore on Children’s Day.

In celebration of Children’s Day and in the spirit of giving back to the community, Koh’s childcare chain, MapleBear Singapore – developed from a Canadian based early learning programme – demonstrated its generosity with a treat for beneficiaries of the Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF) at Resorts World Sentosa. This is MapleBear Singapore’s first CSR outreach to financially disadvantaged families with young children in Singapore. Net proceeds from the event are donated to the BT BAF.

1,000 Children and their Families to Enjoy Sentosa and a New Music Festival for Free

Childaid Benefits from UOB and Yu Neng Primary School’s Fundraising Efforts

A key Singapore children’s charity event will be receiving a strong boost with a generous donation from United Overseas Bank (UOB) and a heartfelt initiative from Yu Neng Primary School.

UOB donates $800,000 to The Business Times Budding Artists Fund and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

UOB is donating $300,000 to The Business Times Budding Artists Fund under the annual children charity concert ChildAid.

ChildAid 2015 raises nearly $2m for two children’s charities

The 11th edition of ChildAid, which kicked off its new decade with a more intimate and jazzy concert on its Gala opening this evening, raised almost $2 million.

Proceeds from the concert, co-organised by The Straits Times and The Business Times, of the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) group, will go to support The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (ST SPMF) and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF). This year’s contribution brings the total sum raised for both funds to about $12 million since the annual concert series started in 2005.

Universal Studios rides and more for 700 at Children for Children event

CHILDREN’S Day might have fallen on Oct 9 this year, but for the kids taking part in the Children for Children initiative, the real celebration took place on Nov 17. Cylina Wai from Innova Primary School was one of more than 700 children who were eager to experience Universal Studios Singapore, and she couldn’t have been more excited. She said: “I can’t wait to go on all the roller coasters!”

Jointly organised by CHIJ (Kellock), The Business Times, The Rice Company Limited, and Resorts World Sentosa, Children for Children is an annual fund-raising and charity event started in 2008.

Along with the adrenalin-pumping rides at Universal Studios, the outing involved a performance by more than 250 students of CHIJ (Kellock). Head of Department for English at CHIJ (Kellock) Jean Toh said: “Each year, the theme is slightly different. Because this year is SG50, we took deliberate efforts to link it to the history of Singapore.”

Yu Neng Primary’s beary-thoughtful gift for less-privileged peers

To commemorate its 80th anniversary and Singapore’s Golden Jubilee this year, pupils of Yu Neng Primary School will give back to the community, one stitch at a time. More than 1200 pupils, staff and parent-volunteers will be hand-making 1,200 fabric bears on August 3 as part of its values-in-action-education programme and fundraising effort called, Pay-It-Forward SG50 Bears.

Leading integrated logistics solutions provider, Cogent Holdings Limited (“Cogent”, together with its subsidiaries, “the group”), will be donating $110,000 in support of the Pay-It-Forward initiative.

Dedicated arts fund for young people celebrates 10 years of transforming lives

More than 7,000 children and youth from financially-disadvantaged families, have benefited from fully-sponsored arts training programme in Music, Dance, Theatre and Visual Arts by The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF) since its inception on 11 May 2005.

Building their portfolios through their training, beneficiaries of BT BAF have gone on to hone their talents in arts institutions like Lasalle College and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and pursue diploma courses such as Arts Business Management at polytechnics.

Today, BT BAF supports more than 500 budding artists pursuing arts training at The Little Arts Academy (LAA) and 10 Square @ Orchard Central (10 Square). Designed to support multidisciplinary arts training and fully-equipped with a theatre-auditorium, gallery and music studios, both LAA and 10 Square are fully-supported by BT BAF.
