InspirAction: Start, Show and Share Kindness Today, this year’s Children for Children theme encourages each child to be more proactive in being kind. More than 250 CHIJ (Kellock) pupils were involved in making Children’s Day celebration a memorable one for more than 1,000 of their less-privileged peers.

Minister for Manpower, Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, together with more than 1,000 primary school pupils who are under the Ministry of Education Financial Assistance Scheme, celebrated Children’s Day through a series of craft activities and theatre-dance performance staged by CHIJ (Kellock) pupils in the Pantages Hollywood Theatre inside Universal Studios Singapore®.

Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information, Mr Lawrence Wong, launched Singapore’s newest children adventure
book today at the annual Children Day’s celebration and fundraising event, Children For Children.

Amongst the first to receive the book were more than 1,200 pupils under the Ministry of Education’s Financial Assistance Scheme participating in this year’s edition of Children For Children.

Making A Difference, The Children For Children Story tells the tale of two children travelling through time to experience all five adventurous years of Children For Children, exploring themes such as marine and environmental conservation and raising funds to help other children.

Some 1,300 children from economically disadvantaged families will get to spend the eve of Children’s Day at Universal Studios Singapore® in Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), in this year’s presentation of Children for Children. The annual children’s charity event will also help to raise $300,000 for The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BTBAF) and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF).

Children for Children is jointly organised by The Arts House (managed by The Old Parliament House Limited), The Business Times and CHIJ (Kellock). This year’s 1,300 participating children will come from over 70 primary schools.

The past four editions of Children for Children had seen more than 4,400 children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds visited some of Singapore’s iconic attractions such as the Singapore Flyer (2008), the Singapore Zoo (2009), Underwater World Singapore (2010) and RWS (2011). Following the success of last year’s Children for Children, RWS will continue to be this year’s venue partner.

The fourth edition of Children for Children at Resorts World Sentosa promises to be bigger, better and more exci-ng for 1,400 children from low-income families who have accepted the invitation to participate in this annual community event on Children’s Day (7 October, 2011).

With an overwhelming response from 73 out of a total of 173 primary schools in Singapore participating in this year’s Children for Children, this is the largest ever gathering for the event since its incep-on in 2008.

This event, jointly organised by The Arts House, The Business Times and CHIJ (Kellock), is also a fundraiser for ChildAid, an annual children’s charity concert organised by Singapore Press Holdings. Proceeds from ChildAid will benefit The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF) and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund(STSPMF).

A group of sea adventurers sailed out to sea in search of new lands. From Little Explorers, the children participating in the third edition of Children For Children became Sea Explorers as they celebrate Children’s Day at the Underwater World Singapore. It was a record when more than 1,000 pupils from 73 primary schools island wide participated that year. Joining the Sea Explorers at Underwater World Singapore was Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, Mr Lui Tuck Yew.

The second edition of Children For Children adopted a bold and fearless safari theme – Into The Wild. It was a perfect name as the event was held at the iconic Singapore Zoo. About 1,000 children took on the role of Little Explorer and were given a treasure-hunt map. The children were from various primary schools and non-profit organizations from across the island. They were paired with staff from The Business Times, Pico Art International Pte Ltd, Rabobank International and WBL Corporation Limited. The event was also graced by Mr Sam Tan, the Parliamentary Secretary of Ministry of Trade & Industry and Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.

The inaugural Children For Children was held at the tallest Ferris Wheel in the world, Singapore’s very own Singapore Flyer. The flyer had only been opened for less than a year when more than 1038 young children came bustling to celebrate Children’s Day. The children hailed from over 20 different organizations such as Canossaville Children’s Home, Student Advisory Centre, CARE Singapore and As-Saalam YWMA Family Support centre. They were grouped with pupils from CHIJ (Kellock) who were their minders for the day. Dr Lee Boon Yang, then Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts graced the event and even rode in one of the capsules with the children. Continue reading “Children For Children 2008”
