Dedicated arts fund for young people celebrates 10 years of transforming lives

More than 7,000 children and youth from financially-disadvantaged families, have benefited from fully-sponsored arts training programme in Music, Dance, Theatre and Visual Arts by The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF) since its inception on 11 May 2005.

Building their portfolios through their training, beneficiaries of BT BAF have gone on to hone their talents in arts institutions like Lasalle College and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and pursue diploma courses such as Arts Business Management at polytechnics.

Today, BT BAF supports more than 500 budding artists pursuing arts training at The Little Arts Academy (LAA) and 10 Square @ Orchard Central (10 Square). Designed to support multidisciplinary arts training and fully-equipped with a theatre-auditorium, gallery and music studios, both LAA and 10 Square are fully-supported by BT BAF.

10th Year Annual ChildAid Charity Concert Raises Record $2.327 million – THE STRAITS TIMES

The annual ChildAid charity concert, now in its 10th year, has raised $2.327 million, a record high since it first started in 2005. More than 200 performers, including a 64-strong orchestra, took to the stage on Friday night for the two-day event held at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands. This year’s line-up featured several well-known ChildAid alumni such as piano prodigy Abigail Sin, pop singer Farisha Ishak, soprano Janani Sridhar and classical guitarist Kevin Loh.

Tenth anniversary ChildAid concert raises record $2.327 million

The All-Stars Edition of annual charity concert ChildAid raised $2.327 million, a record sum since it first started in 2005. Proceeds from the concert, co-organised by The Straits Times and The Business Times, both of which are owned by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), go towards The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund. This year’s contribution brings the total sum raised for both funds to more than $10 million.

At the opening night of the concert held on Friday (Dec 5), SPH chairman Dr Lee Boon Yang and Editor-in-Chief of SPH’s English and Malay Newspapers Division Mr Patrick Daniel presented a cheque to two of the performers, 11-year-olds Muhamad Zhafir Salem and Dineaish Rajendran, also Budding Artists Fund beneficiaries, who received it on behalf of both funds’ beneficiaries.

Children’s Day Celebration Spreads Kindness Message

More than 250 CHIJ (Kellock) pupils were involved in making Children’s Day celebration a memorable one for more than 1,000 of their less-privileged peers.

Minister for Manpower, Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, together with more than 1,000 primary school pupils who are under the Ministry of Education Financial Assistance Scheme, celebrated Children’s Day through a series of craft activities and theatre-dance performance staged by CHIJ (Kellock) pupils in the Pantages Hollywood Theatre inside Universal Studios Singapore®.

ChildAid brings the carnival to town –THE BUSINESS TIMES

Jugglers, clowns, magicians, martial artists and acrobats feature in this year’s ChildAid charity concert. Set to a carnival theme, nearly every aspect of the show – from its programme highlights to its elaborate set and costumes – is designed to evoke the atmosphere of a circus. The concert raised $2.035 million – a new record sum, compared to last year’s $2.016 million.

ChildAid 2013 raises new record of $2.035 million for needy kids

More than 160 young performers sang, danced and performed their hearts out to raise the largest amount ever in the ninth edition of the ChildAid concert at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands tonight.

Organised by The Straits Times and The Business Times, the charity concert raised $2.035 million – a new record sum – for its two youth-related beneficiaries, The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund. Last year, the concert raised $2.016 million.

book today at the annual Children Day’s celebration and fundraising event, Children For Children.

Amongst the first to receive the book were more than 1,200 pupils under the Ministry of Education’s Financial Assistance Scheme participating in this year’s edition of Children For Children.

Making A Difference, The Children For Children Story tells the tale of two children travelling through time to experience all five adventurous years of Children For Children, exploring themes such as marine and environmental conservation and raising funds to help other children.

ChildAid Concert Wows Crowd –THE STRAITS TIMES

The audience held foam lightsticks of about an arm’s length, while the young talents performed against LED screens showing visual projections. The young ones wowed the crowd with a high-voltage performance at the Electric Edition-themed ChildAid concert. In its eighth year, the annual charity event raised a record sum of over $2 million – higher than last year’s $1.88 million.
